Brutal Sonic is a difficult (and violent) hack that manages to not be total bullshit! There are six brand-new levels and some entirely custom bosses for you to defeat. Despite this hack looking very "vanilla" on the surface, it features a toally re-organized and cleaned up Sonic 1 engine. This allowed me to add more secrets speed up the development process towards the end significantly, and bring you this monstrosity of a hack.
This hack has five difficulties for you to choose from:
- Weak - For people who don't want a challenge. No spike bug, standard gameplay.
- Normal - The default difficulty. Spike bug is enabled, and all projectiles bounce.
- Hard - For harder bosses. Identical to Normal, but with your rings being cleared before bossfights.
- Nightmare - No. Rings.
- ??? - ???

Some stuff like explosions and music are taken from open-sourced hacks like Sonic ERaZor. The other one I would rather not credit for obvious reasons, however I have credited the artist. I could not find good fitting music anywhere else.

Peak ROM hack
Someone took inspiraton from the Michael Bay of Sonic ROM hacks, interesting.
Not great, but not bad either. Tunable difficulty is always a godsend. I'm not fan of the gore-y stuff, but it fits with the soundtrack choices. Eggy zapped my ass by Marble Zone, so... yeah.
this was a really fun hack to play through! i liked the fact you kinda took inspiration from ERaZor in terms "explosiveness" hehe. i was gonna say smth about the "spike bug" but i believe it was intentional to add to the "brutal" factor, the credits music was awesome and so was the music choice for this hack! btw i like the end credits scene, it was very cute :]
