Sonic 1: Mania

Pushing the absolute limits of the v4 Retro Engine, this project takes every visual aspect of Sonic 1 and asks the question: what if this was in Sonic Mania? Each of the six zones has been fully overhauled, featuring brand new artwork, effects, and animations. Besides visuals, the mod also adds gameplay elements from Sonic Mania, such as the beloved dropdash. Gameplay changes can be toggled off, allowing you to experience the original Sonic 1 with just the new graphics.

- Character animations fully ported over from Sonic Mania, with Mania-like smooth sprite rotation
- Fully smooth animations for badniks
- New decor for zones
- Visual and sound effects added to several objects
- Fight against Eggrobo when playing as Knuckles
- A brand new set of 'Encore' palettes which can be toggled
This is part one of four of a larger project which aims to 'Maniafy' every game included in Sonic Origins. The mod provided here however is meant for the standalone Sonic 1 decomp (new syntax).

Hey guys, this mod is really incredible! Smooth animations and custom palettes is really hard to do with RSDKv4, and you guys somehow managed to pull through! I really that this is the best way to experience Sonic 1 with a fresh coat of paint!

However, the only nitpick is a weird bug that I've found when I've tried using the decomp. When loading the game, the screen turns black and doesn't actually let me load the game. I've even tried using the latest decomp version (as well as scripts), and it still doesn't work.
Luckily, I realized that I had the Dev Menu on, so I just used that to get into the levels. Hope that you get that problem fixed! Thanks for this incredible mod! (And sorry for the multiple replies, I wrote A LOT!)
Okay, after coming back to some concerns about the mod, I should note that it can only be played on the 1.3.1 decomp and the Data.rsdk from the mobile version. The Origins version is still in development. There are reports of a crash occuring when the game is at the pause menu, but some have not encountered it. Do keep these in mind as you play.

Thank you so much! I was using 1.3.2 when I first downloaded it and I didn't realize to use 1.3.1 instead. I just finished the game, and it's incredible! I'm so glad you guys added an Encore Mode as well. The palettes are so unique (GHZ looks better than the one in Mania's Encore). 10/10!

Do you plan to do a port to Sonic 1 Forever or is it not possible? Even if it's possible, just do it if you want, okay. great mod.
That's not really on the bucket list as I've yet to touch S1F before. Maybe possibly in the future, but that's not the focus atm.
If you plan on modifying all four Origins games, which version of Sonic 3 are you gonna do? The one in Origins, or Sonic 3 A.I.R.?
And do you plan on modifying the standalone decomps of Sonic 2 and Sonic CD, as well?
Because of the way the new decomps are written, whatever works on Origins will also work on decomp, sans the dlc stuff. As for S3, that will be Origins as well.

I kinda expected an answer like that. Sonic 3 A.I.R. uses an engine that isn't nearly as customizable as Origins or the decomps anyway. Still a bummer.
If I can try getting this to work on the mobile decompilation, I'll give an opinion on it.

The mod is not working...
The game doesn't even try to start and just crashes. I tried to install the mod using Mania mod loader
Who knows how to solve this problem?

Could you please help me? I installed this mod and tried to run it through the Sonic Mania mod loader, but the game doesn't even start. I thought it was a problem in the mod loader, but it turned out it wasn't. P.S. I have a version of Sonic mania plus

Hello! One question, is there a version of this mod for RSDK v5? When I download this version, it doesn't load the mod and sends me to the original mania.
This isn't for Mania, it's for the Sonic 1 decomp. I was confused at first too
what game is this mod for cause ive tried it with sonic forever but that didnt work
Hey can i use some of eggrobo's sprites? i will give credit lol.
This seems to work partially on the rdskv4 version of sonic 1 on mobile. However the graphics constantly break. Sometimes are springs and certain badniks but i've seen background issues and the rings are white squares.
I wonder if this issues can be fixed or if there's a different version of rdsk that i need.
Also I don't know how to play the encore mode
Excuse me sir, i am begging you with all my heart PLEASE make Sonic 3 Mania have a Sonic 3 AIR variant, i DO NOT want to kill my Daddy's wallet to buy a game just for a mod
This mod looks really good! Although, could you please fix this bug where it doesn't work right on mobile? (I have to go to the level select and pick a zone just to play the mod.)
