Sonic 3 Rebuilt

Sonic 3 Rebuilt is a Sonic 3 & Knuckles ROM hack built off of TheBlad768's Sonic Clean Engine. This ROM hack aims to restore all Sonic 3 & Knuckles content back into Sonic Clean Engine, while also adding many improvements, optimizations, and extra features. Some new features that are in this current demo are:

  • S.C.E included engine improvements
  • Character specific control improvements, such as adding the Super Peelout and Dropdash for Sonic, Flight Cancel for Tails, RSDK-style flight assist for Sonic and Tails mode, and rolling in mid-air for all characters (Rolling in mid-air for all characters is included in S.C.E already)
  • Music Toggle to toggle between Final Release music, and 11/03, prototype music, and a Camera Toggle to turn on Sonic CD's extended camera
  • Faster load times thanks to removing Nemesis compresion entirely, in favor of Kosinski+ and Kosinski+ Module compression
  • Various improvements across every zone in this demo, and other improvements across the entire game in general

In this demo, only the first half of Sonic 3 is available, with the only difference being FBZ is now between CNZ and LBZ. Knuckles does exist, but several parts of his gameplay are currently unfinished, so he's been left out of this demo. In the future, Knuckles will be playable with his half of the game being finished as well.

For anyone who has decided to play this ROM hack, thank you for supporting my project! This originally started out as a small experiment in S.C.E, and I'm really happy with what it has grown into. This project has increased my knowledge with Sonic ROM hacking in general, and I look forward to continuing this project while adding more to one of my favorite Sonic games of all time. I'm also incredibly thankful to everyone that has helped out with this along the way, as it has helped me turn this project into something big. I hope you enjoy what we have so far!

Notes:

Currently, the Options Screen lacks any SRAM usage. This means that you will have to configure the options you want each time you reset the game. In the future, this options menu will be reworked and will make use of SRAM to save your preferred options when resetting the game.

Tails Assist requires you to hold Down and an action button (A, B, C) to dismount from Tails. However, in MGZ2's boss fight, you don't have to hold down to dismount from Tails. This is to prevent the boss fight from being slightly harder than the original game

Some breakable objects that can be broken from the top may reset Sonic's Dropdash ability. (Monitors and Badniks don't do this though) We haven't figured out why that happens yet, but this will be fixed when the next demo releases

I'm really impresssed with the Sonic and Tails sprites, they're really fantasic! I would like to see more changes added in the future.
