Like a Werehog: Extreme Fury

By Starlight

Experience the Werehog's Extreme power as you brawl with enemies throughout all night stages in Like a Werehog: Extreme Fury!

Skip to the bottom for install instructions and answers.

So, what's changed in the base experience?

Let's start with the fighting for all styles:

  • Combos now only need 100 exp each to unlock, until you reach the final 8, in which need 1000 exp per each unlock.
  • Attack is scaled to be easier to level up and also swings faster but that is because enemies now have more health.
  • Unleash "Fury" is now easier to level up, this is to offset health being harder to level and to allow you to use it longer per battle.
  • Shield is now easier to level up, make good use of shielding and manoeuvring.
  • Health is still just as hard to level up, you will need to rely on combos and attack to lay waste to enemies, and shield to tactically avoid damage.
  • Enemies have buffed health, damage & aggression (Unleash frequency).
  • However, your EXP gain is also buffed to allow you to level up faster and to make each stage on a new save, meaningful.

Don't be alarmed, bees do not receive a health buff! Unless you install Legend Mode that is ;)

Introducing... FURY!

Show Dark Gaia who's boss with Fury, a reworked Unleash gauge to allow more fight to fight usage, effective but skillful.

Your Fury gauge charges faster than Unleash, but also depletes faster depending on the style, this is to enable more action packed fights and to allow skilled use of Fury, e.g. activating Fury then QTE'ing an enemy for max damage output.

Keeping your combo active will reward you with increasing amounts of Fury to keep the fight going in your favour, if you're skilled enough of course.

Yes this is designed to play like Heat from Yakuza.

Additional changes:

  • New battle theme? Kinda... there is a 50% chance of the game playing a mashup of the Werehog Battle Theme & Outlaws Lullaby.
  • The HUD has had a slight fitting modification.
  • EXP orbs have full pickup range.
  • Mod utilises the Foreign Input System mod, more on that below.

Changes brought over from Sonic Unleashed: Refined:

  • When using shield you move and evade a little faster.
  • Now dash speed is increased and so is double jump height.
  • Movement is now tighter, for precision on smaller platforms and beams.
  • Pushing objects like boxes is now faster, so too is opening doors, levels and "pachinkos".
  • Breaking out of freezing ice and knockouts is faster.

What's changed in the Extreme Fury part of the experience?

Introducing... STYLES!

Show Dark Gaia who's boss with Style switching, now you can choose between 5 styles to fit your gameplay preferences.

Werehog: This style is whatever you want it to be, as in... you can put other mods before Extreme Fury, such as Like a Werehog OG, Werehogs Fury or even a hypothetical "Werehog May Cry" and that will be the gameplay for the Werehog style.

Rush: A faster but weaker style, chain combos in quick succession and dodge like your life depends on it. Shield replenishes fast and Fury decreases slowly.

Brawler: A more balanced style, improving on the original Like a Werehog mod. Fury drains at a balanced rate, hits a tiny bit harder but with no speed increase.

Beast: A slower but heavy hitting style, you have more health. Fury runs out the fastest of all the styles but hits like a truck and brushes being knocked down off by getting up instantly.

Legend: A style not to different to the Brawler style, but with the beta moveset. Fury offers very slight stat buffs, invincibility and decreases very slowly in this style but requires you to fill your Fury bar to activate, in theory you can keep the Fury going the whole stage if you are skilled enough. Shield gain is however the slowest in this style. An example of the beta movset is X X Y, this is a swipe, swipe, slash that removes shields from Egg Fighters weilding them.

The Werehog style is the base game style and active when Extreme Fury styles are not active, this style also allows you to install and experience mods like Werehog's Fury at the same time as Like a Werehog, as mods installed under will take the place of the default/Werehog style.

How to access the styles, go to the World Map at night and they should be above the stages, pressing a style then triggering a loading screen means that style is active, doing that again lacking a loading screen means the default/Werehog style is now active.

Foreign Input System:

A basic overview on Foreign Input System is about letting you use inputs that do not exist in the original game's combo sequences to switch in-and-out between specific combo pairs—those pairs being inverse combo pairs (ICPs) and reverse combo pairs (RCPs).

ICP Examples:Donkey Kick Combo [YYXXX] and Egg Scrambler [XXYYY]Possibilities would be: YYXYY, XXYXXDouble Axle Combo [YYYXX] and Wereclap [XXXYY]Possibilities would be: YYYXY, XXXYX

RCP Examples:Donkey Kick Combo [YYXXX] and Wereclap [XXXYY]Possibilities would be: YYXYY, YYXYX, XXXYX.Double Axle Combo [YYYXX] and Egg Scrambler [XXYYY]Possibilities would be: XXYXX, XXYXY, YYYXY.

All combo changes and new combos are viewable in game in the skills menu.

The version of FIS in Like a Werehog is modified, this version is a custom 2.3.1 version, 2.3.1s.To learn more about Foreign Input System and see the entire FIS combo list, press this GitHub link.

How To & Setup:

  • Simply use the Unleashed Mod Manager 1.12.
  • For the sake of easy setup and due to the fact I cannot offer support setting up the mods here, you will need to disable your DLC & Update for Sonic Unleashed. This can be done by renaming your "00000000", "000B0000" & "00000002" folders in your xenia content folder to anything else, just rename them back to restore the DLC.
  • I cannot guarentee hardware or RPCS3 support, this will work on Xenia Canary UWP on XBOX however.
  • Load additional addon mods seen here after Extreme Fury.
  • Load mods like Werehog's Fury, before Extreme Fury.
  • Save file, if used goes into the Xenia content folder for Unleashed's "00000001" folder.
  • To switch styles, press on a style in the night stage list, a loading screen means the style is enabled, no loading screen after pressing means you have changed back to the default Werehog style. Then just play any night stage.
  • Lastly, EggmanLand may seem mildly broken, GI loading incorrectly and what not, this is strange as other mods utilising more memory heavy assets work completely fine in EggmanLand.

Additional mods and info:

The DLC support was cut from the SHC version here, for user ease, however support does exist in the GameBanana releases of these mods.

  • Like a Werehog: Legend Mode: Not hard enough, how about we make enemies stronge, more aggressive and remove checkpoints, upto the challenge?
  • Like a Werehog: One Hit KO: Up for a not hit run? Well this addon is for you! Any damage recieved will instantly kill you.
  • Like a Werehog: Ring Allergy: Yet another challenge you ask? What if rings were deadly, like in my favourite Sonic 1 rom hack, this addon answers that. Health decreases by 100 every ring, or will instantly kill you when paired with One Hit KO.

All 3 addons can be used interchangably or all at once for the ultimate challenge, load these after Extreme Fury but the specific order between the addons doesn't matter.

Disclaimer: Each of these addons has been modified specifically for this experience, Ring Allergy for example does have an instant death without needing One Hit KO version on GameBanana, but for simplicity and ease of access for SHC, the mods have been mildly specialised for Extreme Fury's use case.

I have provided a handle save file tahat contains my save in case you cannot access the mods contents.
