Sonic the Hedgehog: Save The Moon

By Team Brickheads

Sonic the Hedgehog: Save The Moon is back with a 2nd demo, i have been developing hard in original graphics and better use of colors, after months (a username change Super Sonic 321 -> Guyke) i have brought a second demo with everything that I could not explain before, TeamBrickheads has accepted me to work with them.

LORE: The evil Dr. Robotnik has obtained the seventh chaos emerald, the last one he was missing, he has planned to escape to the moon with the emerald and create a base on it. Sonic, has found out about this and decides to visit all the Northwest Island corners until he finds an old factory where Dr. robotnik took refuge and the place where he has put his rocket in the direction of the moon.

DEMO 2 ZONE:

PINETREE HILLS: a beautiful lake full of pine trees and badniks, with fast but slow movements depending on the route you have taken.

ANCIENT MAZE: you will face an abysmal forest with ruins in the water, with slow, tortuous and labyrinthine gameplay through corridors with puzzles, buttons and gimmicks, act 2 hides secrets, passageways, faster shortcuts

PINBALL CITY: Sonic has arrived in a colossal city with many lights and radiant colors, full of enemies, traps and dangerous spikes, act 2 will show electrical failures

METALOPOLIS: a huge factory where Dr. Robotnik is sheltered, a level full of Tesla coils, columns of spikes, turns and traps.

MOON REACTOR: sonic has reached his destination, you will face low gravity and difficult platform challenges (W.I.P. zone)

STAFF EDIT: Per the rules of the Sonic Hacking Contest, repeat entries should provide a Changelog from their previous installment. However, this entry has changed so much content from its previous installment at the SHC, that it has been exceptionally allowed to participate as-is.

I'm not really a fan of the level design here. The game relies too heavily on secret areas and leaps of faith. Doesn't help that the camera is above Sonic.

Roknadal @ 2024-09-28 08:10:38

YOU GUYS FUCKING COOKED. I can confidently say this is the best ROM hack I EVER played. The amount of stuff you guys packed in this demo is amazing.

REALLY EXCITED AND I MEAN REALLY EXCITED FOR THE FULL GAME

Jordan-Kim @ 2024-09-28 09:31:05

Hey, This is awesome

I can't wait to see full game of Sonic Save the Moon

Jdpense @ 2024-09-28 18:26:14

The visuals are as stunning as ever! However, the level design has not improved all that much since lastest release. There are still many mundane vertical climbing sections and parts that require the player to reloop to previous sections. I'm not really a big fan of that level design mentality.

diablo666 @ 2024-09-29 09:28:15

Graphically beautiful, the levels are good. Music 5/5. The bosses were also pleased. I'm waiting for the full version, because it's delicious

dilworks @ 2024-09-29 13:15:15

Holy hell, this is a pretty mixed package: I liked the music selections, the art is superb, the Sonic sprite is nice, loved Pinehill Tree...

...then Nintendo Switch Zone Ancient Maze happened and I was navigating without a north.

...then Pinball City act 2 and Metalopolis had my nerves on the verge for nearly the entire act!

Despite the infuriating layouts at times, this hack is well worth the play, and certainly can be a top contender for the trophies this year

TheInvisibleSun @ 2024-09-29 13:33:18

Played through the demo; I had a lot of fun with it, save for a few issues.

Pinball City Act 2 has a really dark palette for some reason (this zone is already a little too busy, visually), and there is a random pit that looks like it would have an object in it. Metalopolis has a soft lock underneath the "Star Light" stair elevators. Other than that, it was good to see this one come back, even if it has a few rough edges. I had some fun with it!

TheInvisibleSun @ 2024-09-29 13:34:06

(Also, there's an odd lack of checkpoints, and the ground speed cap being left in is unfortunately noticeable.)

rocketsailor @ 2024-10-03 12:21:17

The graphics, especially the title screen, are spectacular, even more so with a crt filter. Great choices for music and sfx also.

I liked the gameplay, although some parts were a bit too unforgiving. I also think this hack would greatly benefit from a drop dash, but that's just my personal opinion. There were also a few visual bugs I encountered, such as a walking animation during a crush death.

Overall, I'm glad I played this, and hope to see it fully polished in the future!

SorachiJirachi @ 2024-10-03 19:39:17

This hack's really strong in the presentation department with lovely, colourful graphics and good music ports, though my main issue with the hack is the camera being shifted up higher than it usually is for Sonic games, which only exacerbate leaps of faith.

Big Mike @ 2024-10-04 02:19:45

I really love the art style here, I don't think I have ever seen a hack done in this artstyle before. I also loved the aesthetics of the levels, the level designed, however does leave a little to be desired. What song was used for act 2 of Ancient maze?

Roebloz @ 2024-10-04 15:26:07

Probably the biggest disappointment for me this year. This was my absolute favorite entry last year, and while it's still really good, some of the new level layouts are way harder (With a ridiculously precise series of jumps in Metalopolis) and the new zones feel very unpolished. I still mostly enjoyed it, but I was expecting a lot more than what I ended up getting.
