Tree Tops returns for SHC2024 with new content, features, fixes and more!
Main changes since SHC2023 (more details are included in the mod itself):
- Added Elder Koco, who serves as a Guide/Tutorial NPC to various aspects of the mod (similar to the Information Pod from Sonic Generations).
- Audio quality has been increased and the mod now uses rips from the original games.
- Cyber Space has recieved new content, including but not limited to: missions from The Final Horizon, tons of Quality of Life adjustments, extended Music mixes, Extreme Mode rank times etc.
- Enabled Arcade Mode for easy access to Cyber Space.
- Every stage has been graphically enhanced, notably all 3 Cyber Space levels have recieved brand new times of day and overhauled interior lighting, while the Open Zone now has improved visibility and a more varied Daylight Cycle.
- Fixed crashes related to having certain HedgeModManager codes enabled.
- Ported the Cyber Space portion of the mod to Nintendo Switch as a proof-of-concept.
- The Open Zone Hub has also recieved many Quality of Life additions and fixes, especially in regards to the Tutorial and overall User Experience.
- Tweaked collision, resulting in fewer moments where Sonic drops down unexpectedly.
Original mod description:
'Tree Tops' is a standalone Sonic Frontiers mini-campaign consisting of levels from the 1998 PlayStation classic 'Spyro the Dragon'.
Features:
- an Open Zone Hub which includes Guardians to fight, various Challenges to complete and Collectables to find,
- 3 Cyber Space stages to put your exploration and speedrunning skills to the test (accessible via Arcade Mode, and available separately for Nintendo Switch),
- a Boss Rush stage featuring tougher variants of previous foes,
- a Jukebox which includes highlights from both the original 1998 soundtrack and the 2018 remastered version (customizable via HedgeModManager).
This mod changes several aspects of the base game:
- always respawns Enemies and Guardians in the Open Zone,
- disables Guardian Introductions,
- disables Jump Board paths making them function like regular ramps,
- enables Air Tricking, Dodging and Flinging in Cyber Space stages,
- lowers the delay between Homing Attacks.
It's recommended to:
- check out the 'Configure Mod' section in HedgeModManager for additional options,
- disable any Gameplay/UI affecting codes while playing (if you skip this step, then the game may crash, hint rings and tutorial pop-ups may not appear, physics may become wonky etc),
- disable any level mods before playing (same goes for mods that affect the Jukebox, scripts, UI etc),
- enable 'Goal display' in the in-game settings (the objectives won't display otherwise),
- lower 'Jump Deceleration' to 0% in the in-game settings.
Known issues:
- Having Ambient Occlusion enabled can cause screen artifacting (happens in the Hub and the Boss Rush stage),
- Position autosaves only work above a certain height, when talking to Elder Koco or exiting Cyber Space/Action Chain Challenges,
- The 'Silver Moon Rings' mission can sometimes break upon leaving a Cyber Space stage and coming back.
