Sonic Spazdunka

By KVW7GM

Sonic Spazdunka is a Sonic 1 ROM-Hack created by KVW7GM, It gone through 34 testing Builds and 9 more public releases before the current 10th public release.

Story of the game

Back in Februrary 2025, i was starting to get influenced by Sonic ROM Hacks, i then decided to find programs that were capabile of making ROM-Hacks, until i found a program called SonED, a program that directly edits ROMs using save states, i then used that program to make levels, so in February 27th, i started off making something called "Sonic Night Quest", before renaming it to "Sonic 1: The Return", it didn't go very far. because of that, in March 1st i just stopped working on it and did something else. but 7 days later on March 8th, i decided to get back working on it, this time renaming it to "Sonic Spazdunka" i then chose LZ's water palette for GHZ, which is how the current palette exists, i only got far with ghz and fz, until on march 10th, i stopped working again, and went on using Disassemblies and other apps, which is how in March 11th, i made the game public via youtube video, i then went off making versions of the game for 5-6 months until getting to what it is right now, and posting a build to SSRG Got it attention.

for the people who played the SSRG Build posted on SSRG, here's what changed:

- new art for levels

- changed some level design

- MegaPCM 2 SoundDriver

- S1 Proto sega screen

- HUD Location

- Only 1 special stage is present, and it's located at SBZ 1 Ring

- debug mode looks visually identical to S3&K's (the coords only appear when you press B)

The game also has a version that has vanilla S1 Sonic Sprites, but i cannot upload it right now.

Moves

A/B/C + Up: Peelout

Have fun!

If you're aiming to make this look and play like one of those super old hacks, you've nailed that part, especially with it not working on hardware.

KVW7GM @ 2025-10-05 05:02:28

idk if i did want to do ts or no

Roebloz @ 2025-10-05 22:55:28

Yeah, Sonic's palette reminds me of Sonic Boom! This is definitely solid. (Is it only not working on hardware because of a checksum issue, though?)

Mostafa @ 2025-10-05 12:45:32

Your hacks are better than the others. Excited, my friend.

Blue Gamer @ 2025-10-05 13:18:39

uhh, this hack isn't really the best

KVW7GM @ 2025-10-05 13:22:14

you bluffin vro, try T.G.E. then come back here to see if your opinion changed

For a newbie hack, I wasn't expecting much, but I was pleasantly surprised in finding a very decent level pack-styled hack! The new custom art is great (Even if not plentiful) and the level layouts are lots of fun, with only a few minor glitches at the end! (Though none are game-breaking.) I know a lot of people prefer more complete experiences out of ROM hacks here, but for me this is really solid, great work!

I'll definitely be putting it on my Everdrive soon. (Though apparently it doesn't work according to MDTravis...whoops. Is it just a checksum issue?) I'd post my playthrough but you've already seen it, so I won't bother.

It looks like there was effort put into this, but I think it misses the mark in several ways. The palettes are difficult to look at, and are much too bright and saturated for the eyes. There are a couple of good things musically, but most of it is way too loud, with extremely rough sounding instruments. The level layouts have too many bottomless pits, and bad, unreactable traps. I appreciate the new art, but I would put some serious time into making the palettes and music less grating. Good Luck!
