Hello everyone and welcome to the newest demo of Sonic 1 on Bird Hill Island!
Before we start with the changes compared to the last demo, most people haven't played this hack before so these are the changes from Base Sonic 1:
You might be wondering, "Why did you wait so long to release a new demo?" Well, it's because I wanted to improve this as much as I can and to maybe make this more popular among the Sonic community (credit to RHS for inspiring me to do this)
I think it's right to start out with the new levels, this demo adds:
Secondly, I think it's time to highlight the character that got the most changes, Tails! While Sonic got the super peelout and Knuckles has his jump height more accurate, Tails FINALLY has his Tails and can now fly!
Another thing that I have added or changed is the music, I have changed all or most of the music tracks to sound a bit different compared to the original music tracks.
Another thing that has been cleaned up is the levels, now some levels have dynamic color palettes for different acts, and also Mysterious Marble Zone has it's grass color changed to Bird Hill Zone for consistency. I have also altered some level layouts to feel a little better than they used to be back in the 3rd demo. There is also 2 new special stages, the 4th one is similar to the first 3, and the 5th one which is more of a platforming challenge and was inspired by Sonic ERaZor.
I have also added the options menu so you can more easily choose your character and I also added an option if you want the super transformation to be Super Sonic or Power Sonic.
Some menus have been changed, like the "original game by text" now has a better font, and the Blue Gamer Presents Screen and the title screen has got a full graphic overhaul.
Hope you enjoy this demo!

For anyone streaming my hack, make sure level select is unlocked when playing as Knuckles. He can't beat MMZ1, BPZ1, BMZ1, BMZ2, and Bird Bridge act 3.
Where is Blue Gamer Splash Screen Add this soon buddy
Played through the whole thing as Sonic; this is a good start, and I seeds of good things in this project, but a lot that is a bit off. I had a good time with Mysterious Marble Zone, and some stages, like Bird Bridge, have some really nice palettes. I like the concept of revisiting a "ruined"/"bad future" version of the first level before final zone.
Musically, almost all of these ports sound off, or broken in some way, and there are some drowning oversight bugs you may want to address, like the invincibility music changing to the S&K invincibility theme when returning from drowning. The sound is a bit buggy as well in places, notably in the end of act music and sfx.
Bird Maze has quite a bit of lag in places as well, although I had a decent challenge with the level. There are also some places in MMZ where you can hit the "bottom" of a lava tag through the ground if you have an Elec Shield and receive damage.
Bird Bridge has way, way too many "bottomless pit" areas, and there's also an oversight at the end of one of the acts, where you can backtrack into a death pit because of the changed bottom boundary.
I also had trouble with the special stages, as the rotation speed seemed to change a bit randomly? Not sure how it is meant to work.
Not a fan of the "Wood Zone" zone, to be honest, as it doesn't seem to add much to the project and is a bit janky (like most wood zones). Unless it gets a major overhaul, you could do without it, especially since this hack already ha a good chunk of content.
There's a lot here, but it may be good to stop and polish what you have. I'd start with the art and music; some of the palettes are rather rough, and further than that, this project is conceptually begging to be free from the "Modified Sonic 1 Art" thing that's going on, y'know? It would be cool to also start to implement either more inventive remixes of the music you have in there, remixes of lesser used/known tracks, or brand new music.
Thanks for the hack, and good luck in the contest!
I loved he aesthetics of the zones, especially mystic ruins. I also loved your take on the bosses from Sonic 1. However, I was not a fan of the Special stage. Some of the physics around the rings were a bit off, like there was a ring in mystic ruins that would not get collected despite walking through it.
I think you have a solid base here, with some tweaks could be amazing.
What I liked: the new layouts are fine, the new art for MMZ is pretty nice, the challenge level is juuuuust right (you need to stop and think at times, and that's good, even on a Sonic game!), the Sonic 3/3D Blast music remixes are not bad. Pretty solid base so far, no crashes, no game-breaking bugs.
What I didn't liked: Plenty of collision glitches (Especially on MMZ where some items couldn't be picked up unless you left the area and came back), the special stages are unforgiving (and they can rotate too fast, triggering motion sickness!). BRZ is so far a clone of BHZ with ugly pallettes, why Tails' flight is crippled when pressing B?, credit roll is broken at the very end (when character ends dying over and over at the spikes at the beginning of BHZ.
The lack of polish and work-in-progress is very evident, but this is another of those "keep an eye on this for future contests" hack that I would be glad to revisit in 1-2 years.
(FFS SHC system: 512 characters limit!? This is not Twitter, y'know :P)
Average Low effort s1 hack
Can you actually give me some feedback rather than hating on it?
I am really disappointed by this hack. First of all, the visuals are quite glitchy and not too great, and while the level design is good, that softlock with Knuckles is REALLY bad, and should have been put in the description rather than a comment. (In fact, if he's incomplete, why even include him at all?) I was surprisingly able to beat Mysterious Marble 1 with him, but I got stuck in Bird Park Zone Act 1, and had to abandon my playthrough. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0mKABF_O_T8
Overall, this seemed like it was going to be a great hack, but that softlock is really bad. Knuckles NEEDS to get his wall climbing and gliding, and shouldn't have been left in this build in this state.
Hey! Just saying that if you want to continue your playthrough in a different video then level select is up,up, left, right. It was also left in a comment since I noticed it only after the deadline had passed.
