When the brave Ace-Pilot of Star Fox finds himself in an unknown world, it's up to him to respond to the distress call the residents of South Island have sent him, in the hopes that he can save them now that their hero has been captured.
This is a single-zone demo of my work-in-progress ROM hack project.
In this demo, you play as Falco Lombardi, the Ace Pilot from the Star Fox team, and run through a somewhat-familiar Green Hill. Falco's moveset is similar to that of the Super Smash Bros. series, with different kinds of attacks you can perform. You can use these attacks to destroy badniks, but also collect rings and monitors.
BACKSTORY
In this AU, Sonic has been captured before he can put a stop to Eggman's takeover. Falco had just begun a solo flight, when his warp drive malfunctioned in a similar way to Fox's, but he's instead sent to a section of space just near Sonic's planet. Falco arrives just as Eggman is flying back to Scrap Brain, with the blue blur now in his possesion. Falco flies his Arwing towards the island, and notices the animals are all in shock and despair as their hero has been captured and taken far away. With the situation looking dire, Falco steps in and promises to put an end to Eggman's plans, and also free Sonic from his grasp.
CONTROLS
A - Nothing as of this demo (It would've been a standard attack, but due to time crunch and being a bit unfinished, I decided to not include it in this demo)
B - Special Attack (If not moving OR holding down while moving, a blaster attack is performed. If down button isn't held while moving, the phantasm move is performed)
C - Jump (If near a wall, this can be used to wall jump)
IMPORTANT NOTE REGARDING CLOWNMDEMU
Unfortunately, due to how ClownMDEmu's sound emulation works, the PCM samples play too fast, causing the samples to noticeably play in a higher pitch than intended. For this reason, it's recommended to not play this hack in ClownMDEmu, as the music will not sound correct due to it relying on DualPCM for some tracks.

Disclaimer: I've never played any StarFox game, so I'm not aware of any of its characters nor lore. Therefore I'm approaching this as a "outsider" of sorts.
- Falco's sprites/animations look pretty clean. Good job there.
- The timing for wall jumping is... too tight. It took me several tries just to get ONE wall jump properly done, and this is not exactly good for the game experience, especially considering some layouts heavily rely on this skill.
(ugh, dear SHC operators: 512 character limit for comments is not nice when giving a honest review! Please consider extending it to at least 1KB!)
- Collision is a bit iffy around monitors, breaking them doesn't work often.
- Got stuck at the special stage, where I experienced the same collision issue with monitors, then flying endlessly on a void space.
FWIW I'm using a freshly compiled BlastEm.
I don't really have much to say, this hack is pretty solid!
Although, I would like to see a tutorial level added for casual players to get a better feel of the moveset.
Overall the level design is pretty good and the music as usual is amazing. I ran into a couple of bugs, such as no music playing during the special stages, when dashing into a breakable wall and pressing the opposite direction. Falcon gains a ton of speed in that direction (which tbh i don't really mind because you can abuse it and do some cool speedrun tricks with it) I've noticed as well picking up the speed shoes doesn't always alter the music as well.
This one was cool!
I ran into some issues with the blaster, where they did not consistently kill enemies and break monitors (and failed to, more often than not).
Love the direction of the special stage, even if it is unfinished so far (I also noticed that the Arwing indeed loops vertically if you hold down/up long enough)
In alternative timeline, Star Fox was released in 32X and Falco was the one playable character.
SOME EXTRA NOTES

The dynamic camera code was given to me by NaotoNTP. I unfortunately forgot to add him to the credits.

If you manage to get into the special stage, you will have to reset the game to exit.

Make sure you don't double jump when attempting to perform a wall jump.

There will likely be a few noticeable bugs due to me rushing this to make the SHC deadline.
Other than that, I hope you enjoy what I've put together this year!
