Hello, this is NiphFM, and I’m glad to announce that the Mega Drive Music Contest has commenced its 8th round. For those who aren’t familiar, the Mega Drive Music Contest is a mini-contest held within the SHC’s Discord server, of which contestants compete to create the best Mega Drive music to fit the round’s prompt. In Round 7, rigid_atoms won 1st place, and with it, the choice of this round’s prompt.

The South Island Alliance have briefed us on our next mission. The pilots of the SG-91S, SG-92T and SG-94K are commissioning us at the Mega Drive Music Contest to compile a small library of appropriate background music for their upcoming offensive. They would do it themselves but due to the immense budget being used on their mechas’ abilities, the best audio system they could afford was a combination of the YM2612 and SN76489 soundchips, which is unable to play their carefully curated collection of MP3s.

The prompt’s requirement for this round is as follows:

Your submission must be an arrangement of a track from - or related to - the Gundam series. This also includes anything adjacent to Gundam, e.g. Macross, Evangelion.

If you’re struggling to pick a track, rigid_atoms has kindly compiled a short list of suggested tracks that fit the prompt:

  • Seventh Moon (from Macross 7, present in SRW Alpha 3)
  • Tamashii no Refrain (from Evangelion: Death, present in SRW MX)
  • Mazin Kenzan!! (from Mazinkaiser vs. Great General of Darkness, present in SRW W)
  • From the Aqueous Star with Love (from Mobile Suit Zeta Gundam, present in SRW Alpha)
  • The Right Stuff (original from the games, present in SRW Z)

The deadline for this round is July 20th, 2025 at 6pm AEST (UTC+10). The listening party will be scheduled once we get closer to the deadline, along with the voting stage. If you wish to join the fun and compete in this round, please be sure to join the SHC Discord server and give yourself the Music Competition role, as this will give you access to the channels required to participate.

That concludes the announcement! I want to thank everyone involved and wishing to be involved for their immense patience while I got myself in order, it doesn’t go unappreciated, and I hope that this new round will be well worth the wait. Good luck to everyone taking part!
