We're really glad to reach fresh blood in this community, and we're eager to see what our younger hackers and modders can do.
However, because of a whole lot of Internet laws, we must ask you to please not submit to the Sonic Hacking Contest if you are under the age of 13. If found in violation, we will ban your user account, and delete all of your entries.
Coming here to tell you that...
On that note, I recommend you create your submission as soon as you can: you can leave it incomplete until it's ready, and you can update it as much as you want until the submission deadline.
I also advise getting it finished sooner than later, as it is generally later into the submission period that the SHC sees the most activity, which means getting the submission up to date can get really really slow!
Furthermore, you should also submit footage for the SHC Trailer!
We would like to remind you, as plastered multiple times across the information pages, that if you have any issue with the Sonic Hacking Contest, its staff, or its management, you have multiple avenues for contact. The best ways to reach out are the following:
We would also like to highlight the fact that disrespecting the Staff of the Sonic Hacking Contest is against the Entrants' Code of Conduct, and that those found doing so may be barred from participation at the SHC, at the discretion of its Staff.
We come with another change to the Judge list.
This time, we present a last-minute addition to the staff team, puhjaamuhz, whom those of the Sonic 3 AIR community may know as pahrah!
We are opening submissions for the Sonic Hacking Contest's Trailer! To submit, fill in this form.
You have until September 8th, 2024, to submit your submission to the Contest and the trailer.
Speaking of the Contest...
We are releasing a statement in regards to a controversy involving mainly two Sonic Riders Modding Groups, them being Extreme Gear Labs, and Sonic Riders Underground.
In a most unfortunate error, we have forgotten to include Sonic 3 & Knuckles in the list of selectable games.
It is now possible to pick it as a base game for the ROM Hack category. Super sorry about that!
[Amendment #3A: n] Changed "Amemdment" to "Amendment"
Prior to now, it was not possible to attribute Sonic the Fighters as a base game for an entry. This is now possible.
If you are submitting an entry for an official Sonic game that is not present in the game list, please let us know!
You can't. Not on your own.
But if you are making a Team entry this year, make sure to message @cinossu on Discord, and he'll work his magic to make your entry into a team entry! Make sure to tell him your team name, and who else is in your team. Your teammates' SHC user names would be appreciated!
Cinossu Edit: Of note, all of your team members will have access to any team entry. That includes updating it as well, in any way. This means that, should you be unable to get the entry completed in time, someone else from your team can instead. This includes updating the descriptions, uploading images, even the main entry upload itself. It's a pretty useful thing to have set up if you're working on a team.
Hello! As the SHC2024 just went live, it is important to inform you that there may be some last-minute amendments to any and all information presented in the Information pages. Where there are conflicts, news posts created after this one (and also including this one) take precedence.
This news post is to inform you that MegAmi is no longer going to be a Judge, for they have willingly resigned.
Heyo! Been a while since you've all heard from me, huh?
Well, I'm here today to announce that you can now add your entries into the 2024 Sonic Hacking Contest! It's all sorted and updated, and ready for all of your lovely content.
Before jumping in, I heavily recommend you reading over the updated Information pages. There have been a lot of changes made for this year, and it should be immediately obvious if you just dive right in to entry creation that there's major differences. Be sure to look it all over, you don't want to make any mistakes.
Well, that's all from me for now. Real life beckons once again. Enjoy this year's contest, all!
Tune in for around 25 minutes of news on up and coming Sonic ROM Hacking and Modding goodness!
Please note: the Sonic Hacking Spotlight is an event organized by, but distinct from the Sonic Hacking Contest. Unless otherwise stated, hacks and mods showcased here may not end up participating at a Sonic Hacking Contest. Even if otherwise stated, circumstances beyond our control may prevent our potential entrants from maintaining publicly stated release promises. We respect those, so please do too.
And that concludes the applications for the first ever version of our Sonic Hacking Spotlight! A surprising amount of applicants came through us, and we can guarantee you that there's going to be something for anyone!
Look forward to the announcement of the exact date of the Sonic Hacking Spotlight, coming this July!
A reminder to all potential applicants of the Sonic Hacking Spotlight 2024 that you have ONE WEEK LEFT to submit your application.
Applicants that have received instructions through private means through giovanni.gen on Discord may continue following them as is. Other potential applicants are expected to fulfill their applications by the end of July 10th, 2024.
You will be granted a few more hours than anticipated. For an exact timestamp, the application form will close down approximately at July 11th, 2024 at 19:00 CET.
Would you like the chance to present or have us present your project to a wider audience?
We're now accepting applications for the Sonic Hacking Spotlight 2024, an experimental Nintendo-Direct style presentation!
Follow the instructions in this form to apply!
Applications will be accepted until July 10th, 2024
With the announcement of the release date of Sonic X Shadow Generations, we're pleased to announce that we'll be locking in our dates for the Contest Period of the Sonic Hacking Contest 2024!
We'll be talking about that, as well as further information in regards to the Media Panel, in our newest presentation!
Also! We're looking for more Media Panelists! If you'd like to shine more light to the biggest Sonic Hacking and Modding event of all time, or expand your audience with our own, then fill in this form!
Great news! After going through the appeal process, the Sonic Hacking Contest Twitter account is back in working order!
In case of another incident like it, leading to a restriction to one of our accounts, we will inform you. In the mean time, to stay up to date on all things SHC, we'd like to remind you where you can find us:
Or you can check out this website from time to time for updates!
Effective today, the previous official Sonic Hacking Contest Twitter/X account, under the handle of @shcontest, has been banned. This was the result of me attributing the account with my own age, without checking the account's creation date, which lead to Twitter/X believing the account was created by an underaged person. Official support of the Twitter/X platform from the Sonic Hacking Contest is, as of now, suspended until further notice. We will inform you if a new Twitter/X account is made, or if the old SHC Twitter account is restored.
We'd like to remind you that the best ways to reach out are by either contacting us over at shc[.]zone[.]site[@]gmail[.]com (without the "[]"s), or by using the ModMail bot present in our Discord Server. You do not need to have completed the server's internal validation to use the latter.
We have a previous email we use for other purposes: however, we have to ask you not to send correspondence to said email, as retrieval times may extend beyond your liking. Please use the one specified in the paragraph above.
Additionally, we have to remind you not to send potential entries through our email or other means of contact. The only allowed method of submission is the SHC website's own submission system, which will be enabled later in August. Entries sent through other means, and without going through the submission system as instructed will not be considered.
We have decided to start development on a forum for the Sonic Hacking Contest!
Got thoughts? Positive? Negative? Let us know in the below linked poll, where you'll be able to express your opinion on forums, as well as our Side Events, the Mega Drive Music Contest, and the (now discontinued) Sonic Level Design Contest!
